A monitor arm, true to its name, is a small, thin, arm-shaped device designed to hold your monitor at your preferred height, angle, and position. The dynamic gas cylinder enclosed in the arm allows you to personalize the height and viewing depth of your monitor. This ensures you can view your monitors comfortably throughout your day.

Generally speaking, any flat-panel monitor can use a monitor arm as long as it has the standard VESA hole pattern (75 x 75 mm, or 100 x 100 mm). Most modern monitors will meet this standard, but it is important to check the weight of your monitor ahead of time to ensure compatibility.

Steelcase CF Series monitor arms offer four different points of adjustment: focal, tilt, panning, and height. Each of these can be adjusted by simply moving the appropriate joint (the base for focal adjustment, the monitor attachment for tilt or panning, and the ‘elbow’ joint for height and angle) to the desired position, where it will remain until moved again.

Monitor stands allow you to directly mount your monitor to the stand, at a height that’s more conducive to comfortable posture. While stands don’t offer the same range of adjustment and movement as a monitor arm does, monitor stands are a great ergonomic solution for desks or workspaces that may not have the room for a fully-adjustable monitor arm, or for workers who don’t need to adjust their monitors throughout the day.

A laptop dock allows you to easily use devices like laptops and tablets like you would use a desktop computer, by providing outlets and connection points for things like monitors, chargers, and USB devices. The need for a docking station will depend on your current setup. If you are using your laptop screen as one of the displays, then many laptops will allow you to plug directly into a second monitor. Desktop computers, and other devices like phones or tablets where the first screen may not be as usable for desk work, typically need a dock to allow two (or more) different monitor connections.
