Amia brings a refined style to any space, without compromising the significant science included in every Steelcase chair. Including high-performing features both seen and unseen.
Designed by the Steelcase Design Studio in collaboration with industrial designer Thomas Overthun of IDEO, the team set out to create a beautiful, quietly intelligent chair— Amia is a beloved, fan favorite.
- Designed with a hidden advanced LiveLumbar system, Amia flexes with your every move providing consistent, dynamic support for your lower back.
Different than a typical lumbar “cushion”, LiveLumbar is a system of flexors that move with your back. Two handles on the chair’s backrest let you slide the LiveLumbar to the ideal position for you
- Custom manual adjustment controls allow the user to tailor in their perfect fit. The adjustment controls are labeled, eliminating any question about how to dial-in the perfect fit for your perfect sit
- The seat includes flexible edges for a pressure-free sit and adaptive bolstering in the seat cushion - which allows the seat to conform to the body distributing the user’s weight to allow for a comfortable sit for any size user
From the way the arms move to the way the back is shaped, Amia strikes that sweet spot between performance and presentation, making it one of our most sought-after chairs. The versatile design of Amia fits seamlessly into your environment—and your life.
We believe in doing better for the planet by recognizing our role in climate change and reducing our impact on the environment.

How can I adjust the Amia office chair?
Amia and Amia Air provide several points of adjustment all over the chair to support your natural sitting style. Adjustment controls are labeled for ease of use. Here are some tips:
- Push your hips as far back as they can go in the chair seat, so shoulders are parallel to your sit bones.
- Adjust the seat height so your feet are flat on the floor and your knees equal to, or slightly lower than, your hips. To raise the chair, lift your body weight and pull the lever up. To lower the chair, stay seated and pull the lever up
- Adjust the seat depth: Lift weight out of the seat when adjusting depth and pull handle and hold, slide seat forward or back, and release lever handle lock. With your back against the chair, you should have 2"- 3" of space between the back of your knees and the seat edge.
- Adjust lumbar: Grab both handles and slide up or down. Position the lumbar to fit comfortably into the curve of your lower back
- Adjust the armrests so that your arms are at a 90-degree angle with your hands comfortably resting on the worksurface. Amia / Amia Air feature optional height, width, depth, and pivot- adjustable arms.
- Adjust the back tension to your desired sitting posture.
- Upright back lock - To lock backrest in upright position, lean forward and flip lever down. Flip lever up to unlock for full-range motion.
- Full recline range with back tension adjustment -Turn the knob forward for more resistance and backward for less.
